In January 2025, representatives from the Labour Party’s sister parties in Morocco (Socialist Union of Popular Forces -USFP), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (Social Democratic Party- SDP) attended a visit arranged by the Labour Party WFD team to expose participants to best practice the progress made by from the UK Labour Party in supporting women political aspirants and overcoming barriers in order to increase women’s political participation ahead of upcoming elections in Morocco and Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2026.
During the visit, the participants joined a number of meetings with senior politicians including Labour WFD Governors, Yasmin Qureshi MP and Alice Macdonald MP, gaining insight in to their experiences in overcoming barriers to political participation as women. The participants were given the opportunity to hear from women who directly worked on Labour’s 2024 General Election campaign as well as experts from the Labour Women’s Network and Fabian’s Women’s Network development programmes, providing information on the party’s support for the women candidates and the extensive training for women candidates.
This exchange of best practice will help participants to apply the lessons learnt in their own campaigns with their upcoming elections and gave them the chance to build strong networks with each other and with the UK Labour Party.
