Annual Conference 2018
Annual Conference 2018

To mark the centenary of Representation of the People Act, which allowed some women in the United Kingdom to vote for the first time, this year’s best practice programme focused on women’s representation in politics.

A fringe panel discussion led by the Rt Hon Emily Thornberry MP, Shadow Foreign Secretary, was organised to discuss building women’s political representation internationally and how female activism and gender equality can be promoted globally.

Participants were also given the opportunity to participate in a roundtable discussion on Labour’s international development policy led by Kate Osamor MP, Shadow Secretary of State for International Development.

Jennie Formby (General Secretary of the Labour Party), Lord Collins of Highbury and the Lord Mayor of Liverpool also met with the group during the programme to discuss the importance of women’s representation and what political parties can do to ensure that party structures are representative.

The Conference provided the opportunity for key policy based discussions, developing regional cooperation between represented parties, and exposing participants to the structure of Annual Conference.
