The inaugural meeting of the Progressive Women’s Summit was hosted in Kiev, Ukraine for representatives from the Eastern European and South Caucuses region to enable best practice by facilitating dialogue between women’s organisations and activists.

It became apparent that some of these women and organisations work in very restrictive and difficult circumstances, and they were in particular struck by how much they had in common. They proposed to strengthen the ability of women to work together, to be creative and constructive in addressing their challenges by retaining informal contacts and run an annual event, meeting the objective of the Summit.
